International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples

Maria Beatrice Barberis

There are over millions of indigenous peoples living in countries across the world. The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed and exacerbated many existing inequalities, disproportionately affecting populations all over the world that were already suffering from poverty, illness, discrimination, institutional instability or financial insecurity. From the perspective of indigenous peoples, the contrast is even starker.   On the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples this year, the United Nations demands indigenous peoples’ inclusion, participation and approval in the constitution of a system with social and economic benefits for all. The theme of this year is “Leaving no one behind: Indigenous peoples and the call for a new social contract”.  (source: un.org) The best way to respect human rights for all is to ensure climate justice. Indigenous people are the custodians of nature, yet they are the most affected by climate change. The most environmentally damaging human activities come from the most advanced countries. It's time to change our economic and production systems, and all can help by adopting an eco-friendly lifestyle. Use renewables, eco mobility, eat local organic vegan food, reduce reuse recycle, remove plastics from your life. Try our natural reusable eco-friendly products, Say Yes to Life, Earth Thanks! 🌿
