The world is invaded by plastic!

Maria Beatrice Barberis

The United States is by far the world's largest plastic-waste producing population, a report by the National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine shows. They have launched an appeal to the government in Washington to adopt a strategy to drastically reduce the amount of plastic thrown away. A large part of it ends up in the oceans, with dramatic consequences on marine wildlife and, consequently, on the entire food chain. Data shows that the US generates 42 million tons of plastic waste each year - twice as much as a much more populous nation like China, more than all European countries combined: each American produces 130 kg per year, second are citizens of the UK with 98 kg. The total amount of waste generated worldwide that ends up in the oceans each year is about 8.8 million tons. That's like a truckload of plastic being dumped into the sea every minute. If the current pace remains, by 2030 the total could reach 53 million tons. The study calls for drastic measures, such as imposing a legal cap on the production of non-recycled plastics, and for greater transparency and more stringent monitoring in order to have data on waste, for example to identify its main sources. We all can help our planet by rejecting plastic items, especially single-use items, and plastic packaging, we can use reusable and recyclable natural products. If we do this, companies will also adapt and stop using single-use plastics. Try our eco-friendly products for your greener everyday life, Say Yes to Life, Earth Thanks! 🌿
