The numbers of plastics

Maria Cristina Chiulli

Plastic numbers:5 trillion pieces of plastic are already floating in our oceans.73% of the waste on beaches is plastic.World plastics production increased from 2.3 million tonnes in 1950 to 448 million tonnes in 2015.12% of plastic waste is incinerated, 9% is recycled, 79% is landfilled or disposed of in the environment.Worldwide, an estimated one million plastic bottles are sold per minute.Estimates of plastic degradation time range from 450 years to infinity.More than 40% of plastic products are used once only.(Source: National Geographic) Unsustainable pollution which, according to Unesco, is responsible for the deaths of 100,000 marine mammals every year, and which in various ways affects hundreds of species. 70% of the plastic that, once thrown, floats on the water then ends up on the seabed. This means that what is visible to our eyes is just the tip of the iceberg. A crumpled bottle of water can be found even in the world's most remote forests or the Arctic ice, as far as isolated beaches where turtles lay their eggs. We do not know exactly how long it takes for these oil-based products to degrade. We do know, however, that they can turn into micro-particles and that once they are in the soil, rivers and seas, they are almost impossible to eliminate.  We can all determine the choices of companies and governments simply by our purchasing decisions. The more natural products we buy without plastics, the more companies will be forced to produce without plastics, and governments will easily get laws banning plastics passed. Adopt a sustainable life style, try our natural reusable eco friendly products. Say Yes to Life, Earth Thanks! 🌿
