Cop26, 100 nations pledge to stop deforestation by 2030

Maria Beatrice Barberis

100 nations said at Cop26 in Glasgow that they will halt deforestation by 2030. This is a significant commitment, especially because of the countries that have made it: the list includes the United States, China, Russia, Germany, France, United Kingdom and, above all, Brazil, which hosts a large part of the Amazon forest, Canada (boreal forest) and the Democratic Republic of Congo (tropical forest). Together, the states in question account for more than 85% of the Planet's forests. As part of the agreement, 12 nations have also committed to jointly allocate $12 billion in public funds between 2021 and 2025 for forest protection projects. At the same time, the CEOs and presidents of more than 30 financial institutions, representing a total of more than $8.8 trillion in assets under management, will in turn engage in a range of activities related to limiting deforestation.Non-governmental organizations take a different view, saying the 2030 deadline is "far too far in the future" and effectively gives the green light "for another decade" to deforestation. Indigenous peoples demand that 80% of the Amazon rainforest be protected by 2025. The Coordination of Amazonian Indigenous Organizations (Coica), moreover, indicated that it will be vigilant and that the funds are really allocated: all the promises made in international forums are not, in fact, legally binding.  What can we do to stop deforestation? Stop consuming products with palm oil, stop eating meat, eat local organic vegan food, use recycled paper and wood from certified sustainably managed forests. Bamboo is natural, does not need pesticides or fertilizers, grows almost everywhere very quickly and absorbs much greater amounts of CO2 than other trees. Bamboo is organic, reusable and fully recyclable, can be used for almost any purpose, from home to food to personal care to construction. Test our bamboo products for home, office and personal use. Your every purchase contributes to environmental non-profit organizations that take care of forests worldwide, and you can plant trees directly from our website! Say Yes to Life, Earth Thanks! 🌿
